Cryptoparty Brussels 2

Invitation

EN

Dear all,

The Hacker Space Brussels, the Net Users' Rights Protection Association (NURPA), Access and European Digital Rights (EDRi) are excited to announce the second-ever Brussels CryptoParty, on 23 March 2013, at the EDRi offices.

We would like to promote the use of privacy enhancing tools in Brussels, the political centre of Europe. Especially with regard to the current European data protection reform, we believe that it is necessary to raise awareness in the "Brussels bubble" for privacy as a fundamental human right. So far, we are planning to focusing on OTR, ToR, encrypting emails, SSL/HTTPS and disk encryption.

We know that many of you have already participated in or organizing CryptoParties, and would love to have the benefit of your experience!

The cryptoparty will take place on Saturday 23 March 2013, from 15:00 until 18:00. The address is:

 EDRi Office
 Rue Belliard 20, 6th floor, 1040 Brussels

Your comments, input and assistance are most welcome. Feel free to forward this invitation or even better: come join us and Bring Your Own Device!

Thanks and best,

EDRi, Access, NURPA, HSBXL

Why?

Having some privacy online is impossible without crypto, but using crypto-tools can be hard if you have to get up and running on your own. So we have organized this get-together to learn, share and help you get started.

What?

At CryptoParty, we teach, learn and share basic cryptographic tools ( such as PGP/GPG, Tor, OTR, TrueCrypt, etc. ) and their underlying fundamental workings & usage.

Educate yourself so you can protect yourself. Protecting our data, information and privacy is of vital importance, particularly on the internet. We variously lock up and otherwise protect physical objects such as cars, houses and credit cards. But how do we secure our electronic data? How do we protect ourselves on the internet? And how do we know whom to trust, and to what degree?

"Privacy is necessary for an open society in the electronic age. Privacy is not secrecy. A private matter is something one doesn't want the whole world to know, but a secret matter is something one doesn't want anybody to know. Privacy is the power to selectively reveal oneself to the world." - Cypherpunk Manifesto
